There is no doubt that Mike Pence was one of Trump’s best choices regarding his cabinet picks. And with everything he does, or says, he just proves it even more that he is the right man to sit beside our next president. This Tuesday the Vice-President-elect reported in front of a cheering crowd that Trump’s top priority will be changing Obama’s bad military politics and rebuilding the army, and that “the Obama era of weakening our national defense is over.”
“We’ve walked away from our commitment to be that arsenal of democracy in the world,” Pence said at the Heritage Foundation dinner held at the Trump hotel in D.C., referring to a so-called ‘hallowing’ out of the military under President Barack Obama.
He explained his statement with a list of stats, including examples and fact about the reduction in active duty forces the smallest Navy since World War I, and the smallest standing Army since World War II. As a response to that, Pence said Trump will ‘rebuild’ the army and ‘restore’ the arsenal.
“I want to promise you the Obama era of weakening our national defense is over,” he said.
Mentioning another issue of Obama’s politics that needs to be changed, Pence informed that his son is a pilot in the Marine Corps, and added: “The average age of aircraft is older than my son,” he said. “That’s about to change, everybody.”
This promises of change were exactly what the crowd from the Heritage Foundation needed to hear, given the increasingly weak military assessment in the past few years. In the Heritage Foundation’s 2017 Index of U.S. Military Strength, none of the four military branches received better than a “marginal” rating for an ability to protect American interests, and the Army received an overall “weak” rating.
According to the researchers and editors of the index, the $600 billion budget is not enough for the military to be able to fight a major war and at the same time continue with its other missions worldwide.
“Handling two major conflicts simultaneously — a distinct possibility, given the growing threats detailed elsewhere in the Index — is likely beyond the ability of the force given its current condition.”
In Pence’s list of future plans and actions regarding the building up of the military was also included “fixing” the way veterans are cared for in the country, repealing and replacing Obamacare, cutting taxes, appointing Supreme Court justices that “uphold the Constitution” and repealing Obama’s executive orders on immigration.
These are amazing news! The changes have started, and already promise a better America for all of us! Down with Obama’s destructive politics!
