US officials said the United States would expel 35 Russian intelligence agents from the country within 72 hours, and impose sanctions against two leading intelligence services of Russia.
Obama’s administration is in a rush to sanction Russia just before they lose the power.
The Washington Post reports that the White House discussed how to quickly punish Russia, using the executive order signed by President Barack Obama last year.
The Obama administration would like the sanctions to come into force before the president leaves office in less than three weeks.
Director of Communications Donald Trump Sean Spicer sought proof that Russia is involved in the elections.
“If the United States have clear evidence that someone interfered in our election, you must disclose it to,” said Spicer.
“It is time for our country to move on to bigger and better things,” said Trump
“In the interest of our country and its great people, I will meet with the leaders of the intelligence services next week so I get familiar with the facts of this situation,” said Trump.
