Donald Trump dropped a huge bombshell about NATO yesterday in an explosive interview with the Times of London and Germany’s Bild. He called for an urgently needed, strategic realignment of the international force.
“I took such heat, when I said NATO was obsolete.”
“It’s obsolete because it wasn’t taking care of terror. I took a lot of heat for two days. And then they started saying Trump is right.”
This practically means that Trump will turn NATO from a spineless force that does nothing but spend money into a bulwark against ISIS.
Regarding German Chancellor Angela Merkel, he said that he had always had “great respect” for her, but criticized her 2015 decision to allow in a wave of a million migrants as a “catastrophic mistake” that opened the door to terrorist attacks.
He also warned that there would be no more free lunches, especially if it’s being used to fight back on ISIS, reports World News Politics.
“I said a long time ago that NATO had problems. Number one, it was obsolete, because it was designed many, many years ago. Number two, the countries weren’t paying what they’re supposed to pay, which I think is very unfair to the United States.”
“With that being said, NATO is very important to me. There’s five countries that are paying what they’re supposed to. Five. It’s not much.”
He’s right. Everyone need to pay their fair share.
Giving NATO a new direction and a purpose to work for greater good is amazing news, considering the fact that Europe reeks of obsolescence right now, far beyond NATO headquarters. So, if the election of Donald Trump jolts Europe’s leaders into action, then American voters have done the people of Britain and the Continent a huge favor.
