During his campaign, Donald Trump made a promise that taking care of our veterans will be one of his top priorities. Until now, the men and women who put their lives on the line for our freedoms, suffered injuries and mental duress, were completely neglected by the former administration. Our veterans were deprived basic healthcare and other support, while the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has squandered millions of dollars.
Now, with President Trump in charge, the injustice has come to an end. He promised to make drastic changes to how the VA operates and to make sure every last veteran receives the care they deserve, and he has already begun accomplishing that promise.
The changes started with firing two notoriously corrupt employees in Puerto Rico, and that is just the first of the many steps that are yet to be taken.
One of the fired employees is the hospital’s CEO, DeWayne Hamlin, who offered an employee $305,000 to quit after she played a role in exposing his drug arrest.
“Mr. DeWayne Hamlin was removed from federal service effective January 20, 2017 – inauguration day,” the VA said.
The other person fired recently is a woman who took part in an armed robbery, ended up in jail, and continued to work in the hospital’s security office while wearing an ankle bracelet.
The amount of incompetence and corruption that has been going on in the VA is shocking and will not be tolerated anymore.
Under former Secretary of Veterans Affairs Bob McDonald, the agency looked away and ignored all evidence about shoddy work ethic, theft and whistleblower retaliation. The VA finally began a months-long investigative proceeding last year, after the interfering of an outside agency, the Office of Special Counsel, reports Patriot Journal.
The agency responsible for our veterans, our fathers, brothers, sisters, and grandfathers, committed horrendous crimes instead of taking care of the brave men who put their lives on the line for all of us. After Obama’s years-long ignorance, it’s time to repay our heroes for all they’ve done, and treat them with the respect they deserve.
