Donald Trump’s White House cuts off all ties with CNN, refusing to send its spokespeople or surrogates on the network’s shows. This has resulted with the network losing all voices from the administration on-air.
“We’re sending surrogates to places where we think it makes sense to promote our agenda,” said a White House official, who added that CNN is not such a place.
A CNN reporter claimed that this is the White House’s attempt to punish them by lowering the network’s ratings.
“They’re trying to cull CNN from the herd,” the reporter said.
Kellyanne Conway’s appearance on January 8 was the last time an official from the Trump administration was a guest on CNN. However, as Truth Monitor reports, officials with the Trump White House are still answering questions from CNN reporters.
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, speaking at an event at the George Washington University on Monday, said, “I’m not going to sit around and engage with people who have no desire to actually get something right.”
After his inauguration, Trump has accused CNN of promoting “fake news.”
While liberals won’t shut up about this, it’s not unusual for a White House to tangle with certain outlets. Former President Barack Obama had similar tiffs with Fox News during his presidency. A former official in his administration admitted that they had their “battles with Fox,” and that there were times where “we sent people on other networks and not on Fox.”
Given the way CNN has treated Trump ever since he first entered the presidential race, repeatedly mocking him about believing he had a chance of winning, it’s understandable that he would not want to set a foot there.
A CNN spokeswoman has declined to comment on this.
