We are all aware that President Donald Trump minces no words when it comes to his responses to media coverage and “fake news”. His critiques have stirred up a revolt among many reporters, and now, Vice President Mike Pence tried to set things straight by saying the media won’t be singled out as long as they stay true to the story.

“Rest assured, both the President and I strongly support a free and independent press,” Pence said Monday during a NATO meeting in Brussels.

“But you can anticipate that the President and all of us will continue to call out the media when play fast and loose with the facts,” he added.

“The truth is that we have in President Trump someone who has a unique ability to speak directly to the American people, and when the media gets it wrong, I promise you, President Trump will take his case straight to the American people to set the record straight,” the Vice President said.

He’s right. Trump doesn’t hesitate when it comes to giving the media a piece of his mind. He regularly mentions media coverage of his presidency on Twitter:

On Friday, he even called out several networks by name.

To that, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., responded by accusing Trump of going too far.

However, Matt Philbin, Media Research Center managing culture editor, ridiculed the notion that the press is being muzzled, reports Western Journalism.

“Nobody is silencing the press,” Philbin said. “Trump is refusing to take questions from some sources, and he’s openly berating some sources. This is not dictatorship. This is not the stuff of 1984. This is not the stuff of Cuba, which the left loves, by the way.”

He said Trump is merely pushing back against an adversary.

“This is the stuff of a combative president who does everything differently, and he’s just not going to lay down for them. The media’s been saying for years that the right is hateful and racist and it must be shut down,” Philbin added. “So the right declares the press the opposition party, the enemy — and the press is aghast.”

He added a message to the media:

“You’re reaping what you sowed now!”
