Last year, NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick made headlines when he repeatedly disrespected the national anthem before his football games, accusing the U.S. for being a “racist” country. As it was expected, this arrogance will cost him a lot.
Kaepernick has been let go by the San Francisco 49ers, as he has lost the contract with the team, reports Truth Monitor.
He was supposed to be under contract with the 49ers until 2020, but the mess Kaepernick has created for the NFL and the team was too much. His faux protest has cost the 49ers Millions of dollars! And because of the Monday Night Football’s historic low viewership, the NFL was forced to refund advertisers.
It seems the journey – from Kaepernick’s ascent to Super Bowl starter to last season’s benching to an offseason trade request to newfound support amidst his controversial protests during the national anthem — has come to an end.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick stated last summer. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
His protests were not tolerated by the 49ers.
“The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony,” the team said in a statement. “It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens. In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose and participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem.”
