After some worrisome reports, Fox News have decided to pull the plug on their United Kingdom network, because it was no longer profitable. Awhile ago, the network was at the top of the cable news arena, but things seem to have changed.
This is what 21st Century Fox stated:
“It averages only a few thousand viewers across the day in the U.K. We have concluded that it is not in our commercial interest to continue providing Fox News in the U.K.”
Even at the very beginning, many were wondering why Fox News tried to tap into an international market. After their efforts didn’t pay out, the network is left to pay the price. The company explained:
“21st Century Fox has decided to cease providing a feed of Fox News Channel in the U.K. Fox News is focused on the U.S. market and designed for a U.S. audience and, accordingly, it averages only a few thousand viewers across the day in the U.K. Sky’s customers can still enjoy a wide range of dedicated national and international news channels.”
According to reports, only a few thousand watched Fox News in the UK. Most of them were probably American tourists or other industry officials that were visiting the country. Still, they didn’t choose the right time to expand to the UK and that is why they are left to pay dearly. Fox News holds a 39 percent stake in Sky and their audience is suffering because of it.
The UK didn’t even like the way Fox News did their reports. It’s safe to say that the country was not ready for the network and the network was not ready for the country. Now, Fox News employees are a bit loss, trying to find their way. Hopefully they can get back on the right track and continue on their conservative valued network.
