President Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson stood together to refute an NBC story Wednesday that claimed Tillerson called the president a “moron” and considered resigning in July.
Tillerson wasted no time countering the story, holding an unscheduled press conference Wednesday morning.
“The Vice President has never has never had to persuade me to remain as Secretary of State because I have never considered leaving the post,” Tillerson said. He slammed those who sought to “tear others apart in an effort to undermine President Trump’s own agenda.”
When asked to address reports that he called the president a “moron,” Tillerson demurred, “I’m not going to deal with petty stuff like that.”
In a tweet, President Trump demanded an apology from NBC over the story.
