Multiple law enforcement agencies continue to investigate a vehicle ramming attack that happened less than 24 hours ago in New York City.
What we know so far is that the suspect, who has been identified as Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov from Uzbekistan, drove a rented truck on a bike lane, killing eight people and injuring additional eleven.
After committing the attack, Saipov was shot by a police officer. He remains in a critical condition, but reports say that he is expected to survive, reports Politicus Daily.
We’ve also been informed that notes written in Arabic were found in the truck. The notes said that Saipov committed the attack in the name of the Islamic Country. Also, authorities found an IS flag in the truck.
The nation has been in utter shock since the moment news about this attack broke out. President Trump, who has been committed to fighting terrorists since the beginning of his presidency, wrote this:
“I have just ordered Homeland Security to step up our already Extreme Vetting Program. Being politically correct is fine, but not for this!”

Soon after, the Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke also came forward with a statement about the attack:
“We have recently seen attacks like this one throughout the world. DHS and its law enforcement partners remain vigilant and committed to safeguarding the American people.”
A lot of other political figures have shared their statements about this attack. Among them are Vice President Mike Pence and First Lady Melania Trump. This is what they wrote on Twitter:
The U.S. people stand w/ NYC after today’s cowardly act of terror. When terrorists bring violence, America always brings justice & resolve.
— Vice President Pence (@VP) October 31, 2017
My heart breaks for #NYC today. Thoughts & prayers as we monitor the situation.

This is why President Trump and his administration worked so hard to create a travel ban for refugees. In that way, refugees would not have been allowed in this country, meaning that this attack wouldn’t have happened.
