If you keep up with what’s happening in this country, you’ve probably heard about Colin Kaepernick. He is a mediocre American football quarterback who is currently a free agent.

He rose to fame back in 2016, when he began protesting what he viewed as the oppression of people of color in the United States by not standing while the national anthem was being played before the start of games.

Even though a lot of people criticized his actions, his protest inspired a lot of other players, who have since joined the protests and also refuse to stand for the national anthem.

Since this began, the NFL has been having a really bad time. They’ve been losing viewers, their rating has dropped tremendously, people no longer buy tickets to see their games. And all because of one man – Colin Kaepernick.

Because of the reasons we mentioned, Kaepernick has not been a favorite for anybody in the US. This is why police officer Antonio Gutierrez from Reno, Nevada, got a lot of bad attention after he dressed up like the controversial ex-NFL quarterback for Halloween.

Many thought that his costume was pretty funny. He wore a wig, fake nose and a sign that read, “Will stand for food.” But, Gutierrez’s boss did not think so, reports The Conservative Fighters.

Reno Police Chief Adam Garcia gave this statement after seeing Gutierrez’s costume:

“For those who have seen the Halloween costume of one of our officers apparently mocking a citizen who has chosen to take advantage of his constitutional right to protest, I offer my sincere apologies. Members of our profession are held to a higher standard and denigrating another — on or off duty — is insensitive for its lack of respect and lack understanding on how others may negatively view their actions and may be impacted.”

We understand where the Chief Garcia is coming from. Since Kaepernick’s protest is still such a controversial subject, maybe his persona shouldn’t have been used as a laughing matter.
