The Attorney General coming from Califonia has just the announcement that there will no be any more state-funded travel to Texas and three other U.S. States.
California’s Democratic Attorney General Xavier Becerra has put Texas, Alabama, South Dakota and Kentucky to the list of which North Carolina, Kansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee are already a part of. The Attorney General did this in response to what he considers anti-LGBT rights laws enacted this year.
Since the decision was made, Becerra said that the money of all the hardworking taxpayers will not be used to let people travel to states who chose to discriminate, reports TruthFeed.
People are still unsure if this decision will bring the countries better results in the future. Of course, there are a few exemptions from the law, but the spokesperson who made the announcement did not know to point out any particular situation.
In addition, Becerra’s office didn’t provide any information about what led to this decision being made. They said they didn’t know how often state employees have visited the newly banned states, which is totally weird.
However, Becerra’s office did say part of the decision to add Texas to the list was made because of a law that lets child welfare organizations deny services and adoptions to families because of “sincerely held religious beliefs.” But, that hardly seems like something new, since Alabama, South Dakota, and Kentucky already had similar laws.
John Wittman, a spokesman for Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, stated:
“California may be able to stop their state employees, but they can’t stop all the businesses that are fleeing over taxation and regulation and relocating to Texas.”
After the decision was made public, children who play on the Fresno State football team were curious to find out if this new law would prevent them from playing against the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa this fall. They sent a request for a legal opinion to Becerra’s office, but no ruling has been issued yet.
