Not sure if this is a shocker, or kinda expected. As it turns out, France is not inviting President Trump to the climate change summit.
As The Hill reports, President Trump is not invited to this years’ climate change summit in France.
According to an official in French President Emmanuel Macron’s cabinet, Trump is “for the time being” not invited to the event in Paris
“The United States have a bit of a special status for that summit,” the official said, according to Reuters.
“The United States would still be invited to the summit but at a lower level than the president,” added the official.
The summit, which will be happening on Dec. 12, will include more than 100 countries and nongovernmental organizations.
This decision comes after Trump’s announcement in June that he will withdraw the USA from the Paris climate change agreement, a pact he denounced as “unfair.”
“The bottom line is that the Paris accord is very unfair at the highest level to the United States,” Trump said at the time.
The Trump administration filed a formal notice with the United Nations in August that it would be leaving the agreement “as soon as it is eligible to do so.”
Many countries spoke loudly against Trump’s decision.
“I don’t think it’s a substitute for international policy. But to get more renewable energy online is mostly a local decision. It’s made by public utility commissions, it’s made by governors and mayors and utility companies, and so, the fight goes local,”Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) told The Hill.
California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) also shared a piece of his mind:
“President Trump’s announced withdrawal [from the accord] has heightened the focus on this fundamental existential threat called global warming, called habitat destruction, called species extinction,” Brown said in a speech in Beijing
Truth to be told, these people can say what they want. We have a complete trust in our President, and we know that whatever he does, it’s for the best.
